Fireflies in Fitzroy Gardens

Sometimes expectations change rapidly, and perspectives are re-aligned.

In this past year I have had to relinquish what I had deemed the most vital friendships, as they became the most volatile.

Recently, I met a felicitous young man. He left gifts in my inbox with  delightful and extraordinary content. And in one small evening he strung fairy lights across the rooftop, made concentric circles in clear oriental ambrosia ring around me, and opened up the world I knew to show beauty which had always seemed elusive.

Then he did something beautiful and delicate, something perfect that a girl had dreamed of and never thought would be realised.

He taught me how to find grace in cutting strings, and staying true to intrinsic intentions.

A girl could not wish for anything more.

But she does.

Thank you, my dear.

Bass Guitars and Beauty

I had been ill for a long time. I was bedridden and had not eaten for a about a week.

My favourite musicians were playing at a cosy venue. I put on the beautiful blue dress I had sewn myself, it is dark blue shot with tiny ultramarine flowers, my first petticoat, and let my hair out around my shoulders.

It was a magnificent evening. They played every song I loved. And then something unexpected happened. The bassist knelt down in front of me and played a whole song, telling me things I could not hear over the tenor of his guitar. And then, at the encore, he took an armful of flowers which garlanded the stage, and showered them all over me.

Sometimes beautiful things happen.

Wednesday

As many of you know, I have been busying myself with my minor thesis and coursework. After submitting my first draft chapter, I am letting my thesis rest while I research for three coursework subjects - droll work indeed.

What a pleasant surprise it was, then, to hear from an old friend who is visiting my town to open a joint exhibition. I was kindly invited to attend the opening tomorrow evening, and to enjoy the same privilege next month at the solo exhibition!

And just as nice was a lovely package from What Katie Did. With a few lovely items for my sister who has been so very kind, and a little something for me.  A girl has to have a tiny indulgence.

Can you guess what they were?

Here's a clue: It appears in a picture somewhere on this blog!

Happy hunting ...

Underlying Intentions

In my last post I had something to show you. Something absolutely delicious and desirous. It was a fabulously overwhelming gift from the friend I mentioned.

It was one of those rare and treasured  occasions when a girl is surprised by something she could have only dreamt of calling her own. I had not mentioned my preferences to anyone, and it was only vaguely referenced here in my blog, so it was a wonderful surprise. What makes my dear endowerer even more incredible is that the selected sizing was impeccably accurate.

Most of you are familiar with my preference for many of the delightful items at What Katie Did. For a few years now I have been secretly lusting over a particular design in their corset range. What a very lucky girl I am to be able to cinch myself with the gorgeous Morticia.

If you have ever received a parcel from this gorgeous boutique, you will know how the pleasure begins as you unwrap your delicate items from the volumes of black tissue, which has been carefully beribboned and subtly marked for posting. Their corsets also come in lavish satin bags for safe keeping.

You can imagine how overwhelmed a girl could be to learn that her divine friend had been busily sourcing both the US and UK collections for such an indulgence. More than this, it was to be a part of an entire lavish ensemble!

After examining it on-screen so often, one would think that I would know the items in my favourite What Katie Did range by touch. But with my eyes averted and my fingers feeling those lines of stitching, soft satin and powermesh I could not believe my lingerie fantasies were being realised. I am entirely enamoured with so many of the items in the delectable Maitresse range. Can you believe what gorgeous things I found?

An essential item in a vintage girl's wardrobe

Tasteful and glamourous

Authentic, specially made on rare machines, and with a keyhole welt.

and to hold that beauty in place
with six very fine quality garter tabs for a sure grip.

What a very fortunate girl I am. However, at the moment they are being admired in my drawers as I wait patiently for a visit from my very generous gifter.

A girl shouldn't wear them for just anyone.

Basílica de la Sagrada Família

I really should be studying, but thought I would sneak a few pictures up for you from my holiday.

The first day in Barcelona was spent here. I have been longing to visit her for such a long time.

Isn't she magnificent?

Basque in Barcelona

Sometimes a girl has to be a little spontaneous. And a little wicked. Sometimes she has to stretch herself a little further than she should. She should grasp a gorgeous opportunity when it is with such divine company.

She should not resist.

And so I have acquiesced.

                                                        Naughty, naughty me.

I do not mind how imprudent it is. I think that makes it nicer, and my inviter is so enticing.

A girl can sometimes do things she should not.

Or perhaps she should, after all.

I can't wait.

In just a few weeks I shall be here:

Can a girl have too much that she loves all at once? She might need you to hold her down.

I love it when you do that.

Serendipity

Recently, I travelled some distance to break the monotony for a dear friend who had been stationed in isolation.

Our first morning began with a beautiful breakfast and stash of travel goodies before ensconcing ourselves in the black beast which found its way to a quaint country town a few hours east.

On the outskirts of the town is a disused mill which houses a weekend market. We purchased locally made cinnamon rolls and date scones, and perused the wooden and woollen handicrafts before cruising into town.

We found a lolly shop filled with all those favourites synonymous with sunny memories as children. Dusty second hand stores were stuffed with unwanted oddments; a discarded collection of other people's lives.

Along the main street is an old restored courthouse staffed by a local lady, who told us how she made butter as a girl and rode, three to a horse, to school.

And then there was the Motor Museum housing some of the regular regional favourites, and a few absolutely astounding unique vehicles. One was a Chevrolet Eldorado Biarritz of which there were only several hundred made. There are reputedly only 20 left. She is a hard top convertible who puts her roof up when it rains even if you are not there. You really must see the photos:

We then had a local lunch where I accidentally spilt my malted milkshake across the lap of my trusted driver just before we departed. I found this disaster in vanilla incredibly amusing because of the poker face, (and thankfully the grace) of my travel companion. After many tea-towels and some surreptitious sponging we rejoined the beast for a roundabout return along the country roads. (Which was punctuated with my bursts of giggling in recollection of the incident, much to my driver's chagrin ...)

The way home was as beautiful as the roads we had taken to come. Fields of canola crops coloured our journey home (as did sour worm lollies and ginger biscuits).

In retrospect I found our day filled with all the things I loved.

My spontaneous visit to cheer a dear friend four thousand kilometres away was also a wonderful weekend for me.

States of Undress

After a conversation with a friend today, I began to understand that I had some rather distinct KPIs for my intimate liaisons.

Now before you start pressing the big red button, or shouting "Warning, Will Robinson", I do want to assure you there will be nothing explicit or untoward on my little blog.

But in this age of electronica, I have begun to find that speed-dating, just like speedy everything-else seems to have permeated one of those rooms where we should be taking considerable time.

As I mentioned to my friend, she and I do love our lingerie, and we carefully choose delicious and delicate articles that don't just lie closest to our skin, but actually accentuate our womanhood. You have seen some of my preferences on this weblog of mine, but as I have intimated, there is quite a pretty collection in my bedside table, my chest of draws, my wardrobe, and in tiny boxes and packets hidden where they shan't be found.

As you lovely lady readers know, many of us are often pleasantly adorned beneath our outerwear whether we have an occasion or not. And when we actually do have an exciting evening planned, we often have something special lingering underneath our fabulous frocks.

As we slowly reveal our sensitivities, we are often surprised how some certain types of gentlemen tend to  race their libido to see how quickly they can remove those final garments.

Now if your lady is wearing some very unflattering beige items that look more like a woollen bathing suit, then yes, please use as much haste as possible to reveal your lover's better form.

However, as a little hint, if you are presented with a woman who is endowed with exquisite underwear, please do enjoy it with a lovely dose of acknowledgement and a hint of imagination.

Great Unexpectations

Sometimes we are so pleasantly surprised. It comes when we least expect it. It can be all one's wishes come true. Or a happy hiatus. I certainly do not mind.

These last years, and months especially, have been strange and wild. They have been conducive to radical and often uncomfortable change. I have looked to friends and relatives for support and met with a dearth on so many sides. It has been surprising and devastating. So when I found something precious, I wanted to hold onto it. Naturally perhaps. But ironically not always successful.

I have worked consistently at everything that was important and that I loved. And I have had to relinquish almost all of it. But my university grades, and my integrity I have retained. So little and so much.

So now, when I have been given something so unexpected, and so beautiful, I find it difficult to believe.

Strange and beautiful. Even if it is only for a short time, one is so very grateful.

Vargas Video

Some of you may remember my post from November last year on the gorgeous Vargas dress.

The creators, Kiss Me Deadly, are asking for videos in their loveliest shape-wear.

Without a boy in the boudoir, a girl needs to ask nicely if there is any kind and discreet person out there in my ethernet who is handy with a camera (or vidphone) and has a few luscious ideas to make a fun little film-o-matic.

... but you have to promise to be nice because I am a very good girl.

Brown Paper Packages

Yesterday I was very surprised to hear the door bell ring. It was a postal contractor with his little notepad and a brown cardboard box!

At first I thought it must be for somebody else. But it was clearly addressed to me ... Who could have sent such an exciting parcel? And what could it be?

I did not wait for scissors to splice the tape. I opened it immediately in the hall. Inside the box was a note which said:

SURPRISE!

The toy(s) inside this box have been specially selected, ordered (and paid for) by someone you know. The name of the 'mystery' person(s) who have kindly and thoughtfully chosen you as their recipient ...

  • Can be found on the card/label that's attached to the gift inside,
  • Cannot be revealed or has wished to remain anonymous,
  • Is ...........................................................................
(The first option was ticked. Then it said ...)

Please remember, these toys are intended for the person as indicated on the card/address label of the parcel so please do not remove any wrapping or open any envelopes unless you are the person for which the toys were intended.

... We hope you enjoy and have many hours of fun playing with your new toys.

How exciting!
I carefully opened the cute little card. The words on the front were just like the note:

Inside my benefactor was revealed!

My present, however was not. It was still wrapped in this beautiful paper which I later learned he had chosen especially.

I did not peek until every piece of sticky tape was undone. And look what I found!

Remember these? They were like maths and science and tech drawing and art all in one.

And look how the gears came. It reminded me of the little toys in cereal boxes which we pressed out and put together.

The template has been redesigned so that when you flip it over the teeth interlock under the lip, and the gears are more secure as you wheel them around.

And it also came with this stencil to accessorise your swirls!

Don't they look as bright and colourful as lollipops?

At first I made a space scene, then a sea animal collage, and later shared it with a young lass who made a flower garden.

Super-nova-licious.

Just like sending letters, I love receiving things in the post, but this was extraordinarily generous and unexpected, which made it all the more perfect.
